HATCHES: Black Flying Ants. Match with Black and Cinnamon Ants #16. Very windy, showers, 60 degrees. Caught Carp on a chartreuse wooly worm with brown hackle, brown hackle tail and black bead head. It probably imitated a crane fly larva which grow up to four inches.

On Saturday, March 17 the Madmen TU Chapter will be working on the Mad again. They will be spreading mulch along the trails and limestone down near the bridge area. If you have time come out for the morning and lend a hand!! The fun activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. along the Rt. 36 Bridge.

Don't forget your fishing license has now expired and everyone will need to purchase a new one before fishing this month!!

The ODNR has been busy this past week working near the Rt. 36 bridge. The pile of rocks near the bridge have been placed along the bank and in the river to help maintain the bank that was washing away and divert the flow of the river. The next TU work day will be March 10. They will be meeting along the Rt. 36 bridge at 9:30 a.m. More mulch will be placed along the trail and the steps near the spillway will get further work.

The temperature was 37 degrees today and the water temp. was near 44 degrees. The mad is running very clear. Woolly Buggers seemed to be the fly of choice today. I won't bother you all about the "fish that got away", but it was probably the largest brown I've ever caught. Got it just close to me to place my hand on it for about 2 seconds before it broke off. It was easily 20+...you can't miss is because it still has my fly stuck in its mouth!

With the cold weather and possible rain and snow blowing in fishing could be tough the next couple of days.

For those of you who have not seen the super work completed by the MadMen Chapter of Trout Unlimited need to stop by the Rt. 26 bridge and check out their work!! The trail to the West of the River is just about completed and a nice gravel trail looks very professional just below the bridge. Of course, Sunday there were plenty of cars parked at the Rt. 36 bridge even some with Cuyahoga County plates (must have been there checking out their work!)

There was a nice midge hatch on the river Sunday morning and afternoon. The water temp and air temp were both around 45 degrees. The water clarity is very clear even though we have gotten some rain and snow the last couple of days over here. Caught 5-6 active browns though none over about 12'. Cream colored midges and tan Hare's Ears seemed to work the best. I wish I would have had some smaller midges though. Looked like size 20 or smaller would have been perfect.
